Some of the Osborns best Grenache is grown on hilltop vineyards that are windswept and weather-beaten. The vines were planted several decades ago in the traditional method of bush vines and have not been trellised since then, retaining their basket-like shape. These old, dry grown bush vines are root-restrained in shallow, poor soils to keep the vine producing in this harsh environment. Drought resistant and stressed, the vines are low-yielding, producing small berrieswith concentrated fruit and tannins. These berries are perfectly suited to their blending partners, the dry-grown Mourvedre and old vine Shiraz.
